My H1B extension was filed just one day before my I-485 was sent to NSC last July. I was able to get 3 years extension ...my company paid for premium processing though... I think you should be ok with filing the extension. Talk to your lawyer...

This is not correct. you can apply for 1 year extensions if you have applied for 485 and is pending.

Guys,
I am proposing a "IV Annual Meet", Not all of IV need to meet in one place, but all the state chapters can meet in their local states on this one day. We should make this a annual affair. ATLEAST, we should meet once a year. It should be for a whole day, 10 - 5. Every one who wants to visit can RSVP, we can do it in a grand way with lunch etc...we can cover the expenses with a donation of $25 per person .
When ?
First Saturday of November ? This way we do not disturb people's summer time vacations.
How does this help ?
First, it will help to meet State members face to face.
We can invite distinguished people to our meeting to give a speech, so we get press coverage.
We can decide our next steps.
Basically we can do a lot.
We can do some voting too. I (lot of other IVans too) have always wanted to change our groups name to "LegalImmigrationVoice", (no offense to the people who coined this name, they have started a organisation that all Legal Immigrants are benefited, they should find a place in US history books ! :) ) so we do not give the benefit of doubt to anyone that we represent ill-legal immigrants also.
Every one please share your thoughts as what we can do in this annual meet.

You are on H1 unless you request your employer to update your I-9 with EAD.
2. If my H1 still holds good then should I go back to India to get my fresh H1 stamping as it will expire november next year or should I go for one year H1 extensions(as I heard from friends ) till I get the GC ?
Your H1 is not good after it expires. You have to get extension to be in H1 status. Stamping from India would be required if you travel to India with expired stamp on your passport and you choose not to use your AP to return to US.
3. Is there any stipulated time limit within which my wife has to apply for her SSN( we have not yet applied for it. )
There is no time limit.
4. My passport is going to expire on December next year. Do I need to go to India for renewal or it can be done from here itself. If it can be done from here itself then when is the earliest to start that process ?( I will be happy if u could send some links that will guide me ).

Interesting link, thanks for posting :) , if this is true , how come IO's come up with blank when asked if the namecheck has been cleared or not ? This might actually be good news , according to the memo, they are going to clear out 98% of the namecheck cases pending more than 30 days, that's pretty amazing ( as they declare too at the end of the memo :D)

EAD is specifically authorization to work in the US. So in your situation, the answer is NO, you cannot use EAD for employment outside the USA. To work in another country and keep your green card process going, you will have to change your application from AOS to consular processing.

On aug 1st lawyer sent a request to USCIS to process the I-485 with X-140 PD.

I received my Receipts now for I-485.Is there any process to expedite AP while filing .(based on family death). I'm applying for it now.
You can always take an Infopass appointment. I'm not sure if IO really has authority to generate an interim AP. In my case I took Infopass once for address change as it did not happen even after applying online twice.

i filed my labor 7 years ago as a programmer, today i am a project manager. I have changed job using ac21 twice, did not inform uscis even once (as its not reqd by law). I am in eb3 india and I have no hopes that uscis will ever get to my application, and even if they did after 5 years from now, I dont care if they issue an RFE and deny my 485 all together. Point I am trying to say is , you cannot spoil your career waiting for this. I changed my job exactly on 6 months and one day after i filed 485. past 2 years i am a PM. I am pretty confident that I would have had atleast 5 years PM experience by the time they reach my application or even more time. After all I want to go back to my home country pretty soon and so did not want to care about all this job title, description etc crap..this is just me..use your own instincts.

We should try for
1. Either to remove country quota
or
2. Re-instate soft quota.
The above is a long term and final solution.
Other solutions - allowing to file 485, h1 extension for 3 more years will ease our life while we wait for the green card but the first two would make the wait shorter - do we want to "comfortably" wait longer or get to the end point faster ?
